One Day, One Urge at a Time: 7 Years as a Compulsive Gambler

How it Started

My name is James Pond, I am a compulsive gambler of 7 years, I’ve been gambling my life away since 18 but it really started when I was in my teenage years with video games. I used to play sports game and overestimated my abilities, and bet people for money. One thing lead to another and then I found the casino.

What it Cost Me

I’ve found over the years as my compulsion grew that I was slowly losing myself and becoming a person I couldn’t recognize, all those 20 hour gambling sessions of looking at a screen like I was a zombie under some hypnosis, all that lying just to place that next bet. It all became my lifestyle and who I was as a person, the degenerate gambler who could give a rats ass about anybody else but my need/compulsion to gamble.

Why I’m Writing This

I’m taking a different approach towards “traditional” recovery methods as I feel that there isn’t much medical research being done in the gambling space, and people are underestimating the severity of gambling addiction, and we will see the severity of it as sports betting and legalized casinos across all 50 states and worldwide gets inevitably passed. They’re not enough resources in this world to fight this addiction, which is the purpose of this blog is to share my side of the story, and how I fight this war with myself and my addiction every single day.

What I’m Building Instead

You guys will see through tennis, military discipline, and philosophical/spiritual teachings I’ve been able to “kill”/contain my degenerate gambler “demon”self that I’ve been fighting for 7 years and the cultivation of a new man, I like to call him the Gentleman. I’m hoping you can come with me on this journey to beating one of the worst addictions to ever have to deal with personally.
